Cirencester Comes Together to Celebrate Local Heroes at Community Awards

A spirit of pride and celebration filled the air last month as more than 150 residents, civic leaders, and community champions gathered for the Cirencester Community Awards – a much-anticipated annual event honouring the unsung heroes who dedicate their time and energy to making Cirencester a better place to live.

Hosted at a local venue brimming with atmosphere and goodwill, the evening began with a rousing welcome by Cirencester’s own Town Crier, who set the tone with traditional flair. Among the distinguished guests was The High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, Julie Kent MBE, whose heartfelt speech praised the extraordinary efforts of the town’s volunteers, organisations, and everyday citizens who go above and beyond.

The event was jointly organised by Cirencester Radio and the Cirencester Community Development Trust, two pillars of the town’s civic life. Their collaboration, supported by a dedicated team of volunteers, brought together a diverse range of voices and perspectives to shine a light on the people who truly embody the values of service, innovation, and compassion.

“We are incredibly proud of the sense of unity and resilience that this event represents,” said a spokesperson from the organising team. “It’s not just about the winners, but about recognising the incredible work being done in every corner of our community.”

This year’s awards were made possible by the generous support of a wide range of sponsors and partners, including HCR Law, Lake 32, Cirencester Town Council, Cirencester Chamber of Commerce, Cirencester Camera Club, Ian Lloyd Graham, and CirenScene. Their contributions helped ensure the event’s success, reinforcing the power of collaboration in fostering a thriving community.

The evening also featured a Community Market Place, where local groups and organisations hosted interactive stands to share their missions and engage with guests. From environmental initiatives and youth programs to health support networks and creative arts, the Market Place was a living gallery of Cirencester’s diverse civic landscape.

Award categories spanned a wide range of community work, including youth leadership, environmental stewardship, arts and culture, health and wellbeing, and long-term service. While every nominee was worthy of recognition, a panel of independent judges selected finalists and winners based on their impact, innovation, and commitment.

“The calibre of nominations this year was truly inspiring,” said one of the judges. “Choosing winners was an incredibly difficult task because so many are making a real difference every single day.”
